On the highway between Milan and Venice lies the beautiful town of Verona, the setting for Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.

Piazza Bra. The multi-colored buildings to the left look like a mix between Venice and Portofino. To the right is the Roman Amphitheatre.
Verona's amphitheatre was built in AD 30 and is the third largest in the world.
We arrived at dusk, so you can't really tell that the arena holds 16,000 people. Alex is the tiny speck standing in front of the second lightpost from the left.
You can see the stage in the middle. They stage operas here from June-August. Too bad we're never around during the summer!
